Dreamwoods Cavaliers was established in 1987, with the purchase of our first blenheim Cavalier, Madrigal Grace Note, from Bev Dent of Madrigal Cavaliers. Grace was the foundation of the Dreamwoods line, leading us into a fascination with this lovely breed that has not diminished over time. With the help of Bev, we were able to take our first tentative steps into the world of dog breeding and showing. We showed Grace to her championship, and she provided us with five lovely litters of pups throughout her 'career'. Many of her pups went on to become champions also, including Dreamwoods Desert Storm, Dreamwoods Desert Fantasy, Dreamwoods Emerald Isle, and Dreamwoods Dierdre of Brinklow. In 1995, we left Canada to work with TransWorld Radio. We spent two years on Bonaire, in the Caribbean, and then moved to Holland. We remained there for the following 10 years. We continued to keep and breed Cavaliers during this time, thanks in large part to Ria Kavelaars van Loenhout of v.'t Burgstse Hof Cavaliers. We did have to change our registered kennel name to 'Dreamaker', as our preferred 'Dreamwoods' was not available in Europe. Now that we are back in Canada, 'Dreamwoods' is back in business! |
Due to the length of time that we spent in Holland, all of the Canadian bred dogs that we owned have passed on, and this has led to quite a change in our breed lines. All of our present dogs are Dutch bred, or from our Dutch dogs. In the two years that we have been home, we have shown our male, Dreamaker Top Choice to his championship, and one of our girls, Sharpcies Dreamwoods Trinket, to hers. Our friend, Sherry Elford (Sharpcies Cavaliers), has shown one of our Dutch-born pups, Dreamaker Tristen at Sharpcies, to his championship. We will continue to have our younger dogs in the ring in the future. |
